everything about CAPTIVE

Image
LET'S TALK ABOUT CAPTIVE I read this book recently, it is probably the darkest romance I read so far. Indeed it is a love story with the enemy-to-lover trope that describe a toxic relationship between Ella, a captive and Ash a member of very dangerous gang. It is not the best book I read, I would rate it a solid 6/10 because the charaters, the setting and the plot twits are quite good but it is not tha well written. Yet, who doesn't love a good dark romance story from times to times and we can say it is a very original one. A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT CAPTIVE  Captive is a series of books written by Sarah Rivens, it was published May the 11th of 2023. Sara Rivens is an algerien author, she was called  theblurredgirl ( her pen name) on the social media. Captive knew a huge succes especially in France. WHAT TO READ IF YOU LIKED READING CAPTIVE If you liked reading Captive and would like to read another romance book I would recommand The Ace of Herats by Morgane Moncomble or t...

everything about LES FAUSSES CONFIDENCES

Image
LET'S TALK ABOUT LES FAUSSES CONFIDENCES I must admit that I first watched this play before reading it, and I think that might be the best way to study it. It is quite complicated to understand, but the love story is well depicted and very intricate. I thought that Araminte was the perfect representation of the precious women of the 18th century. The friendship between Dubois and Dorante shows an inversion of roles between the masters and the valets. A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT LES FAUSSES CONFIDENCES "Les Fausses Confidences" is a play written by Marivaux, a French playwright, in 1737. "Les Fausses Confidences" explores many important themes, with the main ones being: Love, but most importantly, the obstacles around confessing this love. Social condition, as Dorante is a poor man and his condition restricts him from marrying the woman he loves: Araminte. "Les Fausses Confidences" means "The False Confidences" in French, by the way. LET'S TALK ABOUT HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCELER'S STONE You probably already read Harry Potter or watched the movies, but for those who aren't too sure if they want to read it or not, I've got you! Harry Potter was my favorite book series when I was young. The first one is not my favorite, but it is really enjoyable. The settings, the plot twists, and the characters are simply unbelievable. I would recommend reading it if you want to start reading again after a long time. It is simple to read and will make you want to start the other Harry Potter books. A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCELER'S STONE Harry Potter was written by Joanne Rowling (mostly known by her pen name J.K. Rowling). It is a fantasy novel that was published in 1997 and is the first book of the famous series. The novel has sold over 120 million copies, making it the fourth best-selling book of all time. everything about LES CAHIERS DE DOUAI

Image
LET'S TALK ABOUT LES CAHIERS DE DOUAI I'm not a big fan of poems and poetry, but I had to read Les Cahiers de Douai for school this year. I have to admit that I quite enjoyed it. What I loved the most about it was the story around this collection. Did you know Arthur Rimbaud was only 17 when he wrote it, and it is a pure masterpiece? He also wrote it during two runaways to Belgium (he was French). I loved how, as a teenager, he denounced social issues. A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT LES CAHIERS DE DOUAI As I mentioned, Arthur Rimbaud wrote Les Cahiers de Douai when he was 17 years old, in 1870, during a time when France was at war with Prussia. Life wasn't easy, and people couldn't express themselves freely. Napoleon III, an emperor, was ruling the country with an iron fist. The collection is composed of 22 poems in 2 books. It is still taught in schools in France today. WHAT TO READ IF YOU LIKED LES CAHIERS DE DOUAI As I said before, I am not a big fan of poetry, so...

everything about CYRANO DE BERGERAC

Image
LET'S TALK ABOUT CYRANO DE BERGERAC Cyrano de Bergerac is my favorite theater play. It is funny and poetic at the same time. If you're unsure about reading it because it is a French play from the 19th century, I can assure you it can be as good as any romance book (and even better). Here is the story: Cyrano is a charismatic and charming man but considered ugly. He is in love with Roxanne, who is in love with Christian, a handsome man with "no brain." Cyrano helps Christian flirt with Roxanne. It is, as you probably realize now, a love triangle. A BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT CYRANO DE BERGERAC Cyrano de Bergerac is one of the most famous plays in France. Edmond Rostand, its author, who was unknown before writing Cyrano de Bergerac, took his inspiration from his own life. The play was written between 1896 and 1897. It is now studied in many different classes in France. WHAT TO READ IF YOU LIKED CYRANO DE BERGERAC If you liked Cyrano de Bergerac but haven't read Romeo and ...

everything about THE ACE OF SPADES

Image
LET'S TALK ABOUT "THE ACE OF SPADES" The Ace of Spades is the second book in one of Morgane Moncombe's series. Although I must admit I enjoyed The Ace of Hearts more, I also loved The Ace of Spades, which is quite different from the first one. In The Ace of Spades, we follow the story of Daisy Coleman, a well-known and beloved rockstar, and her charming yet sociopathic bodyguard. Besides the love story, there is also a dangerous stalker menacing the singer. He or she needs to be arrested, but how A BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT "THE ACE OF SPADES" "The Ace of Spades" is a romance novel written by the French author Morgane Moncomble. She has written about ten romances, including "A Fall to Forgive" and "A Spring to Forgive." "The Ace of Spades" was released recently, on September 1, 2022. She has sold over a million books, becoming the best French romance writer. WHAT TO READ IF YOU LIKED "THE ACE OF SPADES" If you lik...

everything about THERESE RAQUIN

Image
LET'S TALK ABOUT THERESE RAQUIN Although it was written during the 19th century, I found "Thérèse Raquin" easy to understand. The story is morbid, and the main characters are anti-heroic. The description is mind-blowingly well-written. However, Émile Zola criticizes 19th-century French society, which sometimes makes the novel a bit unrelatable. But isn't that also one of the great aspects of reading: questioning ourselves on topics we usually wouldn't? A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT THERESE RAQUIN "Thérèse Raquin" was written in 1867 by Émile Zola, a French writer. It was his third novel. Like many other novelists, Émile Zola first published a short story in "Le Figaro," a French newspaper. He then developed it into a novel. Zola received a lot of criticism after the publication of "Thérèse Raquin"; some accused him of pornography. It is one of his first Naturalist novels, in which the author tries to prove the philosophical theory o...
