everything about THERESE RAQUIN

LET'S TALK ABOUT THERESE RAQUIN

Although it was written during the 19th century, I found "Thérèse Raquin" easy to understand. The story is morbid, and the main characters are anti-heroic. The description is mind-blowingly well-written. However, Émile Zola criticizes 19th-century French society, which sometimes makes the novel a bit unrelatable. But isn't that also one of the great aspects of reading: questioning ourselves on topics we usually wouldn't?

A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT THERESE RAQUIN

"Thérèse Raquin" was written in 1867 by Émile Zola, a French writer. It was his third novel. Like many other novelists, Émile Zola first published a short story in "Le Figaro," a French newspaper. He then developed it into a novel. Zola received a lot of criticism after the publication of "Thérèse Raquin"; some accused him of pornography. It is one of his first Naturalist novels, in which the author tries to prove the philosophical theory of Determinism in his own way

WHAT TO READ IF YOU LIKED THERESE RAQUIN

If you liked reading "Thérèse Raquin" and you want to read other French classics, I would recommend "Nana" by Émile Zola, which is about a femme fatale in Paris during the 19th century. She represents the vices of high society. I would also recommend "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert, written during the same period, which denounces similar issues and habits.

FAVORITE QUOTE FROM THERESE RAQUIN

"Tous ces gens-là sont aveugles : ils n'aiment pas " (translation: all of those people are blind : they do not love")
