everything about CYRANO DE BERGERAC
LET'S TALK ABOUT CYRANO DE BERGERAC
Cyrano de Bergerac is my favorite theater play. It is funny and poetic at the same time. If you're unsure about reading it because it is a French play from the 19th century, I can assure you it can be as good as any romance book (and even better). Here is the story: Cyrano is a charismatic and charming man but considered ugly. He is in love with Roxanne, who is in love with Christian, a handsome man with "no brain." Cyrano helps Christian flirt with Roxanne. It is, as you probably realize now, a love triangle.
A BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT CYRANO DE BERGERAC
Cyrano de Bergerac is one of the most famous plays in France. Edmond Rostand, its author, who was unknown before writing Cyrano de Bergerac, took his inspiration from his own life. The play was written between 1896 and 1897. It is now studied in many different classes in France.
WHAT TO READ IF YOU LIKED CYRANO DE BERGERAC
If you liked Cyrano de Bergerac but haven't read Romeo and Juliet, I would recommend reading it because there are many similarities between the two plays. If you like romantic plays, I would also recommend Les Fausses Confidences by Marivaux. It is also about how to flirt if you are noble during the 18th-19th century.
MY FAVOURITE QUOTE FROM CYRANO DE BERGERAC
Un baiser(..) qu'est-ce?
Un serment fait d'un peu plus près, une promesse
Plus précise,
(A kiss what is-it?/an oath made a little bit closer, a promise/ more precise)
